I agree, good points Hakka. Personally I'm all for our country and the world to be well educated in religion, I say teach them both, and teach other religions, let everyone see all sides and choose for themselves. Ignorance breeds prejudice.

Sorry to drag this thread back up, but I hadnt read the 2nd and third page, and I felt like adding to it... i'm sorry, i dont mean to come across as a dink I'm just tired of the system teaching us and our kids theory as if it was fact. Ahh again the "theory" defense...evolution is just a theory...too bad people use this defense without even knowing what the meaning of the word theory is in science... you are not the first Hakka... Sorry for using wikipedia but its easier than then other sources. theory does not mean an unsubstantiated guess or hunch, as it can in everyday speech. A theory is a logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena. It originates from or is supported by experimental evidence (see scientific method). In this sense, a theory is a systematic and formalized expression of all previous observations that is predictive, logical and testable. In principle, scientific theories are always tentative, and subject to corrections or inclusion in a yet wider theory. Commonly, a large number of more specific hypotheses may be logically bound together by just one or two theories. As a general rule for use of the term, theories tend to deal with much broader sets of universals than do hypotheses, which ordinarily deal with much more specific sets of phenomena or specific applications of a theory. Gravity is a theory, optics is a theory, SCIENCE is theory... Dont get me wrong im religous...but I dont think the Bible is literal, too much evidence otherwise. You want to teach facts instead of theory, give me a "fact" then? If we stop teaching theory is school we wont have much left to learn Age of the earth with "NO PROOF" I beg to differ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_earthScience my friend, predicable and provable science, things happen according to rules and laws, who created those laws? Probably something we can call God as far as im concerned... Big Bang theory? really you have aproblem with it? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_BangSo the "proof" is limited on this one, but THE FRIGGIN POPE accepted it, and so does the catholic church... A number of Christian and traditional Jewish sources have accepted the Big Bang as a possible description of the origin of the universe, interpreting it to allow for a philosophical first cause. Pope Pius XII was an enthusiastic proponent of the Big Bang even before the theory was scientifically well-established, and consequently the Roman Catholic Church has been a prominent advocate for the idea that creation ex nihilo can be interpreted as consistent with the Big Bang. This view is shared by many religious Jews in all branches of rabbinic Judaism. Some groups contend the Big Bang is also consistent with the teaching of creation according to Kabbalah Crawling out of the ocean as a blob? Sorry I missed that part of class I guess, terrestrial life likely came from rivers wont waste your time with the rest of it cause its only "theory" All in all what im trying to get across is pigeon holding yourself to religion and ignoring science is assinine. The Bible is the product of man, not God, its been changed, and interpreted diffrently many times. Jesus was a historical figure who performed "miracles" Things that cannot be explained with science. Many (including me) accept this, and him as our savior. Why? Faith, an acceptance that there is something greater then us, that the many coincidences it took to create life took place because some intelligence had a hand in it. Why wouldnt we want a religious discussion here? Cant we at least pretend some of us are adults capable of intelligent conversation? Does the evolutionary doctrine clash with religious faith? It does not. It is a blunder to mistake the Holy Scriptures for elementary textbooks of astronomy, geology, biology, and anthropology. Only if symbols are construed to mean what they are not intended to mean can there arise imaginary, insoluble conflicts. ...the blunder leads to blasphemy: the Creator is accused of systematic deceitfulness. – Theodosius Dobzhansky
