I recently bought the Diamond hd 2400 pro card to replace my old ati 9800pro, only to find out im getting an average of 30fps LESS in games. The ATI drivers wont even install for this card so im using the Omega drivers. Im really disappointed, does this seem right, anyone have an opinion?

sounds like a rip off... Go with a better something better than diamond. If the press seems to good to be true, than it probably is. Better to spend the extra $40 on the better one. Course, i have no clue what diamond is, maybe they make diamond parts, i dunno..

I paid $104, not a lot of money but i thought at least it would be better then my old card since it has 512 ram and 4.0 shaders.

I want 512 and 4.0 shaders $104 is hella cheap for those. Might be able to get card working right, but yeah, i dont see why you would drop in frame rate like that if your upgrading. But i'm no mucho technologico muchacho....

Bey bro, if you are going with ATI get the 3870....however, the way to go is Nvidia right now, and the best bang for your buck is the newer 8800GT....they come in 512mg and 1024mg cards for around $300- a little more for the super (Which is the 1gig monster). It is surely worth the extra money if you want a preferable gaming experience. The issue with your card is purely the card itself. It is true, it does support 4.0 shaders and all the rest, but it is geared mostly for people who want to run HD-DVD and Blu-ray on their computer. That card is not really the best one for gaming, at least high response type games and such....You can try messing with the driver revisions to tweak it out a bit. Drop the omega drvr's and install an older revision of ATI's reference. If that doesn't work try the beta's if they are available. In addition to all that tweak your settings for performance. If you can take it back, do it and trade up to sometheng else. If you are in Vancouver area ask Hada for help on picking out a new card. Of couse if you are on the Island here I can help you...If you can't take it back, sell it on eBay and use the funds towards a new one. Ultimately it is up to you but that's what I would do. Then beg, borrow and steal to get the difference for your new 8800GT or 8800GTX!!! ;D Cheers bro

No doubt about it, it surely is a good card. The 3870 is ATI's response to the 8800GT. (Or is it the other way around?) In any event, it is a high end card pitched for the mainstream. Pick up the 8800GT if you want the best BANG for your BUCK. You will not be dissappointed.... And if you have a choice, make sure it is an ASUS! They seem to be better overall in the benches as far as the equivalent is concerned in competitive brands....

Right now im running a 480 watt psu, it should be be enough to run the card. I really didnt research it to well when i bought the card, i thought anything would be better then my 9800pro but i guess i was wrong. Since i have an older mobo i have to stick with AGP cards since i dont support pci-e. Ive been looking at the Diamond Viper Radeon X1650 Pro 600MHZ AGP 512MB 800MHZ GDDR2 VGA DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card however i think its only 4x AGP like my current 2400 which is why i think my 9800 out performs it. Im still unsure the right card to get.

there are plenty of folks around here to ask ;D I cant tell you too much, other guys here can tell you ALL the numbers you should look for. I usually go into my bios or system info or use some kinda appy to tell you what the specs of your machine are, as far as bridge speeds, agp speed, etc. Then i usually go to www.newegg.com and use their hand search tool to narrow down the vid card to what my computer can handle, then crop down the list further by the specs of the card i want to use and what i want the card to be able to offer me. And the nice thing about newegg is that people put their ratings on there and you can sort the list of cards by the most popular, best rating, etc. I try to read all the comments people leave, but while reading try to focus in on what the negative things people had to say about the product. ****Just want to specify, i'm not saying this is the way to go about doing things, its just how i started. I built my whole rig like this. On numbers i couldnt understand myself i asked professionals of course, but for me the best way to learn is to do a shallow dive, then if it turns out to be a mud puddle, i can crawl out with ease. if it turns out to be lava....well...

I should mention that I run the 8800gtx by Asus and it is fantastico. If I was going to buy a card today, it would have no doubt been the 8800GT 1gig mem as it is the newer PCI express form factor and is very affordable (At least compared to the gtx) Not to mention the performance is pretty comparable to the gtx to some extent in some games and in some rez's....They just didn['t have this card available when I putchased the gtx....But like Filthy said, you really do get what you pay for, just in this case the GT version is , as I said, a bertter bang for your buck.

Best AGP card you will find will be the ATI X1950 Pro, but you very well might need a new PSU as well.

If you want the best performing card pick the one Anjel said, (It's the best out of the box but has very little head-room for OCing....so I've heard) If you want overclocking potential the Nvidia 7600GT will be the one to beat after you tweak it out and crank it up....(All AGP form-factor) I have a 7900GTX in my laptop and that thing plays any game going with decent frames at about mid section settings. I realize this is apples and oranges we are talking about here but I do believe the 7900GT and the 7900GTX (ALSO 7950) is also available in AGP.... .......If that's the case I will take another leap here and suggest that this card is marginally better than the X1900pro.....do your homework, it pays in the end......

The 7600GT won't be as fast even O/Ced as the X1950Pro, and the 7900 series was never released on AGP. The fastest card to be released on AGP is the X1950 Pro.
