Copied from mail here at the hive:
Intel IT is no longer looking at Windows Vista* as an enterprise solution. Here’s the scoop about the decision, why it was made, and what IT is now focused on.
Is IT deploying Vista? No. After months of analysis, IT decided to pull Vista from the PC enterprise roadmap as a primary operating system. Some work will continue with Vista, but only for a handful of employees who need a Vista build because of their job requirements and/or specific customer relationship. IT instead, will focus on Microsoft’s next operating system, Windows 7, which is expected to arrive in 2010.
What are the reasons behind the Vista decision? First, Vista demands increasing memory and graphics processing requirements. We are currently in the midst of a PC refresh cycle, which, by the time Windows 7 becomes available, will be completed and our systems upgraded.
Also, we lack the ROI data that makes a compelling case for Vista. Our resources for applications readiness testing and infrastructure improvements needed to optimize Vista, are constrained. By the time Microsoft made some significant improvements to Vista since it was first released, SAP replatformization became a key priority for IT. It simply makes more sense for IT to now put its efforts toward Windows 7.
Are we concerned about declining support for Windows XP? No. Microsoft continues to have a huge enterprise client base on Windows XP, and they will need to continue to support it for years to come. Many companies, like Intel, have waited or decided not to deploy Vista.
With Vista no longer a priority, IT can continue to focus on improving our Windows XP environment.

Wich is weird, i can honstly say i really like my Vista, really stable, runs for absolute weeks at a time with no hickups, fast, i dunno i guess if you have a fast PC i see no reason not to run Vista. But those are my own experience with it so far, but i have been running it since launch, and i will say it has gotten much better over time.

Glad to hear it Anjel, because quite literally, every single friend I have here who's using it, hates it. They're constantly on tech support, stuff isn't working... it goes on and on. I figured that it couldn't be that bad, but your story is the first positive one I've heard. Happy for you. It'll be interesting to see what this new one is like in 1020. This whole Web 2.0 is really changing the landscape and I suspect we'll be seeing bigger changes in OS's than since they first started.

Yeah even when i installed at launch its been a great experience, the only issue i had was Nvidia Drivers, but i have since figured that out. Besides that i MUCH prefer it to XP, running around the OS is WAY faster/smoother in Vista, i absolutly love it, i honestly couldn't imagine going back to XP at this point. The OS runs great, like i said stable as hell and runs nonstop for weeks, and i have yet to have an issue with games or anything they all run great so i honestly can't complain at all. I dunno, like i said, maybe a lot of peeps are running Vista on PC's that shouldn't really have it installed, but my box is fast and it runs great.

Vista has been the most stable OS I have worked with yet ! My customers have had these issuses Since windows 3.1 On through to Xp ! Seems most people are scared of something new , or thats not how I used to do it type aditudes. Or there trying to run it on a non vista certified hardware ... go to MS online to test your hardware first , or purchase up to date computer. If you want a stable OS that supports Directx 10 games and HD full support , trouble free networking and media center .ect. ect . Get a Vista equipped Computer from Platinum Computer Systems Call Bob 604-725-4902

I have to say, Vista runs fine for me. I run a dual boot system (Vista/XP) and I use Vista about 95% of the time. The only issue I had with Vista is.............my printer from Lexmark. It blows anyways! All my games work...................NO Problems.............and I can play DX10 games...............in DX10! Does Vista require a good computer? YOU KNOW DAMN RIGHT! I wouldn't run Vista with any thing less than 2 gigs of RAM, but I run 4 gigs.

Oh ya ya that would be great Kaz ....make sure you install Norton full addition as well with internet security, and you should have at least 15 tool bars on internet explorer as well ! And make sure all your programs run on the task bar at start up ! Make sure all I candy turned on high . Next plug in a printer and scanner thats atleast 8 years old Oh and you must play the game Crysis on high settings multi play on wireless connection. Visit atleast 10 hardcore porn sights ! Never defrag hard drive that causes problems ! And lastly burn a cd , and load Adobe photoshop while Anti virus is scanning ! This will lead to an enjoyable experiance !

You must realize we didn't go with vista cuz MOST of us are on laptops and we just don't have the machines yet to take full advantage yet save on battery AND be able to multi-task the way we want.
Compatibility for an environment like ours isn't easy.....
