I was just reading an article in a local rag about this item. I had not heard of this before, so I thought I would share it with you geeks. If you have seen Star Trek, any of them. I think this is the birth of the replicator as seen on those shows. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reprap#Project_websites

They've used these to make stuff like running shoe prototypes for some time now. They use other versions to make plastic moulds for what will be cast parts. Pretty cool idea. There are two basic types I believe. The spray layer type, and the liquid chemical reaction type. The plan is in the future, when the hinge on your toaster oven breaks, instead of buying a whole new one, you take in the model number and a description of the part, and Home Depot will use their machine to make you a new hinge right there on the spot. It would save a ton of shipping, materials, wrapping... only problem is that companies make money on us buying new ones, not making the old ones new.
