Same as my media information thread, only this one's to recommend lesser known (or even famous) movies, TV shows, bands, albums, painters, sculptures, dancers etc. etc. etc.

House. There's a lot of bad TV on now, but there's never been more brilliant TV too. From Heroes to Mad Men to Dexter and The Sopranos, TV is enjoying its finest hours. House, for me, is at the top of that heap. Brilliantly written and performed. Created by the Canadian who brought you the film The Usual Suspects (also worth checking out).

Zero Effect. Brilliant and under-rated little film from Jake Kasdan, son of Lawrence Kasdan (various Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill). Hard to market because it's funny, tense, romantic and mysterious. Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller and Ryan O'Neil.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0118863/
Clay Pigeons. Fantastic little low-budget thriller starring Joaquin Pheonix, Vince Vaughn and Janine Garafolo.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0120324/
A Simple Plan. Another great thriller starring Bill Paxton, Bridget Fonda and Billy Bob Thorton.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0100263/
Nikita. By Luc Besson (The Professional, The Transporter, Fifth Element.) Get the subtitled version. The woman is a genius actor. Great action movie. One of the best. Was horribly remade into The Point of No Return with Bridget Fonda.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0110390/
Louis 19: King of the Airwaves. Brilliant little Quebecois film. Hilarious. Horribly remade by Ron Howard into Ed. I cannot imagine why Howard discarded some of the most brilliant comedy scenes I've ever seen when he remade it. Interesting difference too. In the Canadian original, the guy wants to be famous and then pays for it, whereas in the US remake, he has fame forced upon him. The remake includes the worst-ever, most grossly obvious product placement in history.
rawsharktexts.com/
The Raw Shark Texts. Fantastic first novel by Steven Hall. A literal mixing of the films Momento, Jaws and The Matrix. It's an action thriller about a conceptual shark swimming through human consciousness, eating people's memories. Amazing read.

Frank Grisdale Photography. Frank's a great friend and a brilliant photographer. His stuff hangs everywhere from the Waldorf Astoria to the collections of world leaders. Almost all of it is remarkably artful nature photography from Alberta.

Ridley Bent. The most original voice in music I've heard in years. His song Suicidewinder sounds like a mixture of Chris Isaak, Snoop Dogg, Dave Matthews and Tom Waits. Seriously. Be warned, the songs range from driving rock to full country and folk on the Blam! album. His follow up is almost all country. Very, very cool.
www.roger-waters.com/
Roger Waters. My all time favourite composer and the best selling composer in history. Wrote most of Pink Floyd's famous music and he's had an amazing--though largely unknown--solo career since. Not everyone's cup of tea, but the albums are all rock operas, with stories and themes. Designed, like The Wall, to be listened to in their entirety. He uses top flight players like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn.
That's a good start for me. I really look forward to your recommendations.
