Hey Guys.
I know a lot of you are rough and tumble, (virtual) gun-toting he-men, but if your penis is large enough that you don't need big wheels to feel, well "big," then driving a smart is... well, smart.![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
(I've left a surprise at the end of this message for all of you who are penilistically challenged.)
Predictions are oil will be back at $100 a barrel within six months and this diesel (which they don't make any more) is brand new--won in a contest, and it gets just shy of 80 mpg (3.1l/100km). I'll include the link to the Facebook ad, as well as copy the text here.

Condition: new
This car was won in a contest. Get the last new (diesel) smart coupe in Edmonton!
Since they were releasing the 2008 smarts as gas vehicles, even 2007 smarts are technically 2006 diesels. The diesel is MUCH more fuel efficient. The gas vs. diesel numbers are below for comparison:
2008 (gas)
Highway estimate: 4.8 l/100 km (59 mpg)
City estimate: 5.9 l/100 km (48 mpg)
Combined estimate: 5.4 l/100 km (52 mpg)
2006/2007 (diesel)
Highway estimate: 3.7 l/100 km (76 mpg)
City estimate: 4.6 l/100 km (61 mpg)
Combined estimate: 4.2 l/100 km (67 mpg)
I drive to Red Deer once a week and can get there and back (equal to going to Calgary) for around $11-$13--even less if I follow a 3/4 ton or larger truck. Max speed is 140kmh. (Acceleration and top speed are much higher if you buy an aftermarket chip)
The name "smart" comes from "Swatch-Mercedes Art." Mercedes builds the car, but Swatch did the design, so the coloured body panels can be swapped off for another colour just like a Swatch watch. This means you can make this car any colour you like after you buy it. Here's one with a wide-body kit:
![](http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/smart_fortwo_widebody_0.jpg)
With the exception of heated seats (which you can get installed aftermarket), this one is fully loaded. Detailed description of this one is as follows:
Silver Tridion safety cell (like a race car's roll cage)
Phat Red body panels
Bungee Red cloth interior
Glass roof with sunscreen
Soft-Touch 6 speed Transmission (can operate as an automatic or as a standard, with hill-hold)
Electronic Stability Control
Anti-lock Brakes
Acceleration Skid Control
Air Conditioning
Power Windows
Power Door-locks
Heated Mirrors
Premium Package (includes cockpit clock, RPM gauge and smart premium sound system with CD and MP3 input)
Cup Holder
Mileage is under 200km. Yes, 200.
Safety information and crash test videos are available below. The first one shows a smart in a head-on collision and normal driving speeds. You'll note that the windshield doesn't even break. The second one demonstrates a smart crashed head-on into a concrete bunker at over 110kmh. It actually does great, although no car would truly "pass" this test simply because your internal organs can't handle that sort of deceleration, which is why you don't hear about people surviving head-on highway crashes regardless of what they're driving:
Of course, the smart must pass all of the same basic requirements of any car on the road.
I have a 2005 smart and these cars are a riot to drive. They're faster than you'd think. they handle extremely well, and you can fit in all of those parking spaces that no one else can!
I would absolutely recommend winter tires, but the car is actually a great winter car. Because it's so light, it not only starts well in slippery conditions but, unlike a four wheel drive, the low weight means it stops quick too. It uses the same 15 inch wheels that other small cars do, so ground clearance isn't an issue.
If you're worried about space; every week I give a ride to the goaltender in our ballhockey league. We can fit in our sticks, all of my gear, as well as both sets of goalies pads, blockers, gloves and other items in one of those giant goalie bags, with nothing in the forward cabin except him and I. (The passenger seat does fold down if required.)
If you could find a diesel, the dealer price would obviously include GST, all the surcharges, tire and air conditioning taxes, administration and dealer PDI, and would total out at over $21,000, so this one is already discounted to account for the $2000 eco discount from the federal government (which ends in December). I'd like to wait two months and make the extra 2gs, but I need to sell it quick to pay the lawyer. (The good news is that he said she has zero chance of winning, but if we can stop her with some movement on my part now that will prove to her lawyer that they can't win, and then my lawyer can save us the fight and me some money.)
Please feel free to call me at 780-439-0341 but keep in mind that I work at home so my phone can get very busy, so please leave a message and don't panic if it takes me a day to get back to you.
Thanks, and happy driving.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who need something more he-man, you can always go for aftermarket parts:
